The African milk tree (Euphorbia trigona) is a columnar succulent with upright, triangular green stems bearing small leaves and thorns along the ridges; the ‘Rubra’ cultivar is flushed red. It is not a cactus. It loves bright indirect light or some sun, gritty mineral soil and little water. The white sap is toxic and irritant. It reaches 1-2.5 metres.
